We had a conversation a while back about student loans. In less than 2 and 1/2 years I have cut my rather sizable student and business loans in half. Thanks to you and Custom Dental, I am paying off my loans way faster than I thought would be possible. What a marvelous day it will be when we pay our last student loan off. The only thing we will have after that will be a mortgage. Thank you again.

Dr. Chad Wassink DDS Harrisonville, MO

First and foremost, I’m a family man. I always knew that I wanted to be successful and have a career that would give my family security, but I knew that no amount of success or security would be worth it if I didn’t have enough time to spend with them.

When I thought about Dentistry, I realized that it could be a great fit for helping me find that balance. I dreamed of owning my own practice and having the flexibility to coach my kids sporting teams while having enough income to achieve financial independence.

So, in dental school, I started looking at the options for going out into practice. Unfortunately, I didn’t like what I saw. I already had a huge pile of debt that I was going to have to start paying back, so I weighed my other options.

I knew that I didn’t want to work for a dental chain. I figured that I could maybe start out as an associate and buy into a practice, but the only options that were financially practical already had very low success rates and lots of horror stories.

I dreamed of buying a practice or starting one from scratch, but the idea of piling on a ton of additional debt and undertaking the overwhelming task of running a practice on my own was way too daunting for me at that stage of my life.

I had resigned myself to deciding between the less appealing options. Just then, I met Kelly Brown.

Kelly offered me another option. Kelly claimed that, together, we could build a successful business in just one year. I could partner with him and have ownership in my own practice from the beginning. I could build my own business from the ground up with brand new equipment.

Kelly is the real deal–with his 30 years of experience and expertise in dentistry, Kelly was already a partner in multiple million-dollar practices.

I saw the opportunity to have my own practice years before I imagined possible and for a fraction of what I thought it would take and with a partner who could help me actually run the business. It almost seemed too good to be possible, but I’m living proof that it’s 100% real.

Kelly delivered beyond what I ever imagined. Today, I have my own established company that was built on a culture of leadership and personal growth, and a mentor in Kelly. I’m blessed that he was willing to invest so much of his time in me to help me improve in all different aspects of his life.

I’m part of a group of highly successful dentists who share their ideas and experiences, making me a much better dentists than I could be standing alone.

Custom Dental has provided me with the opportunity to build this incredibly successful career, and that doesn’t just leave time for family and what life have to offer; Custom Dental helps me make that life more fulfilled and valuable, too.-Chad Wassink, Custom Dental Business Owner

In college at the University of Oklahoma, I became interested in pursuing dentistry as a career. My uncle was a dentist, so I knew a little bit about it. Being a dentist seemed like it was good for your family life, and I liked that you could help people at the same time.

While I was at the University of Oklahoma, Kelly came in to speak to our business class. His business model sounded really interesting with me, so I ended up doing an externship with Kelly in Guthrie and Perry, Oklahoma.

Right away, I admired Kelly. He’s such an inspiring guy. His story, his outlook on life, and his focus on personal growth make him really one-of-a-kind.

Immediately after college, I spent 4 years in the military, including a year in Belgium. When I got back, Kelly and I came to the decision that I’d open up a Custom Dental in Cushing, Oklahoma.

Custom Dental is the real deal. Here, I’ve been able to grow personally and professionally.

The network of talented doctors within Custom Dental is great. We’re always providing mentorship and advice to each other based on our areas of expertise, and we all participate in Kelly’s monthly growth meetings.

There are so many advantages to working with Custom Dental, but one of the biggest ones is that they manage so many of the aspects of your business that aren’t related to dentistry.

The Custom Dental team helps market and advertise my business without pulling me away from the practice. They also help me with hiring new staff members, training our staff, and provide a third party to help deal with any staff issues.

They also keep track of new laws, regulations and requirements, file insurance, comply with OSHA, help us manage our expenses, and communicate with the banks to make sure that your money stays safe. All of that’s a huge advantage when it comes to opening a single-dentist practice.

On top of all of the assistance that they provide our business, Custom Dental offers 25% off of all of our medical supplies. That’s huge, because supplies, like implants, impressions and gauze, make up a majority of our overhead.

Kelly always says, ‘If you’re not growing, you’re dying.’ We’ve been open almost two years, and I’m happy to say that our business continues to live a more prosperous and thriving life than I could have ever expected.

Kelly has been so generous and so kind, and we’ve really been able to benefit from that. He cares about people and is great at pumping you up, but he’s also very honest and realistic.

When it comes to the things that you have to learn to have a successful dental practice, no place can help you build faster, bigger or stronger than Custom Dental.-Dan Messer, Custom Dental Business Owner

Kelly’s son Nathan and I have been best friends since sixth grade. Ever since high school, Kelly has been a mentor to me, helping me grow and learn so many skills that I use everyday. From saving and investing to the importance of leadership and a strong work ethic, there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t recall and use the advice and guidance that Kelly instilled in me at an early age.

God blessed me when he put Kelly and his wife Jan into my life. When I finally realized that I wanted to become a dentist, both of them were always there to help me turn my dream into a reality.

With Kelly’s help, I opened the fourth Custom Dental location in Atoka, Oklahoma soon after I graduated from Dental School.

I worried about whether I could effectively lead a team, treat a new community, and run a brand new business so soon after school. There were so many questions. I didn’t know anything about insurances or when I needed to do OSHA or HIPAA Licensing.

There were a lot of fears, but Kelly was constantly accessible, offering advice, answering questions, and providing guidance every single day. I thank God that he was, because without him and God I would not have made it through those fears.

Kelly’s constant mantra is, “How can I help you?” Once or twice a day, Kelly sends me information about books, articles, and advice that helps me to not only grow as a dentist, but also to become a better husband, father, and man.

The Custom Dental business model sets aside time to focus 100% of your attention on clients and time to focus on the Administrative side. Without having to split our attention, we’re more attentive and more productive, and our staff knows that they’ll have some downtime. The environment that our policies and procedures create here at Custom Dental is like one big family. We’re all about character, God, and family.

Kelly holds monthly leadership, growth, and training meetings. Even though these meetings are aimed at helping us become better dentists, they’re about so much more than that. That’s why I also hold monthly growth and development meetings with my own staff.

Our Custom Dental practice here in Atoka, Oklahoma is in its fifth year now, and we’ve grown every year, even though that’s getting harder and harder to do in today’s economy. So much of the success in the office is due to the team that we have and the expertise of Kelly Brown, and the support of the Custom Dental family.-Mathew Hookom, Custom Dental Business Owner

“It has been a pleasure to work with Kelly. I recommend him to anyone looking for a mentor dedicated to building a practice and a man.”-Matt Hookom, Owner,
Custom Dental of Atoka

Comments from the Business World about Dr. Kelly Brown and Custom Dental

Kelly has built a dental practice business model that he has now implemented in ten locations. That model provides an opportunity for a young inexperienced dental graduate to start a new practice. Kelly through the Custom Dental model provides the financing and design of the new dental facility, selects and purchases associated equipment, establishes the staffing model, hires and trains the staff, and implements accounting and marketing programs. This allows the new dentist to focus on their contemporary dental technical strengths while mitigating their business office management weaknesses. A network of dentists has been created that can be leaned on for mentoring, best practice discussion, and friendship

As evidenced by his success, Kelly is a visionary that can implement his ideas. He continues to take steps to learn and grow and I am confident will continue to generate new opportunities for his banker and other business partners.
